Maki International
Projects

With proceeds from Maki Inc. sales, we have committed ourselves to improving the lives of the women in Ayacucho.

Our first project was in the prison. We asked the women what they wanted and they asked for more shade during the day. There was an existing area that was covered, but it wasn't nearly big enough for all the women. So we got approval from the officials and had a structure built.

Our next project was to provide training for all the women that wanted to participate in knitting for Maki, Inc. We hired a teacher to enter the prison twice a week and teach the skills to any women that wanted to learn or improve. We also hired the same woman to hold a class twice a week at the Emergency Women's Center in Ayacucho for victims of violence that wanted to participate in learning and working for Maki, Inc.

Most recently, we have built solar ovens in the prison so that the women could cook meals for themselves in a safe environment. And we are currently constructing two new toilets for the women -another group decision they made regarding improvements in their conditions.
