We are in the midst of creating the MAKI foundation, a non-profit organization that will ultimately have a physical presence in Ayacucho, a women's center that reaches out to the local community as well as the prison community. We envision it as a place where women can pick up yarn and pattern designs and work for MAKI Inc. from home. It will be a site for women to attend knitting classes, self-esteem workshops, nutrition classes, and solar oven demonstrations. This will also be a positive base for women just getting out of prison, a place where they can come for life and work advice, job training and job seeking.

We want to provide these services to the women in the surrounding rural areas who can't afford to pay for a bus ride to town. We hope to link into the "Mothers' groups" and expand Maki's handprint.
