Nestled in the Andes of Peru lies the town of Ayacucho, once an important stopping point on the long trip from Lima to Cuzco. With the popularity of air travel and the deterioration of the road, Ayacucho has become more isolated. Some 25 years ago, it was the site of the Shining Path/military conflict. The city was devastated by years of war with over 100,000 people killed. Today Ayacucho is a peaceful city but it is still in a period of recovery from its destructive past. There is a significant lack of viable employment. Many women are looking for work and it is our goal to provide more and more with employment opportunities that they can do from their homes.
